ASSEMBLY is a national collaborative initiative exploring how museums and galleries can better value, enable and practise collaborative research in changing public contexts. It is led by the Australian National University in collaboration with the Australian Museums & Galleries Association (AMaGA), Monash University, and stakeholders across the Australian museum, gallery and university sectors.
ASSEMBLY pursues four broad areas of activity:
- Convening & Connecting
- Learning & Translating
- Supporting & Modelling
- Advocating & Amplifying
The first phase of ASSEMBLY (2023–2025) convened national conversations with practitioners from museums, galleries, universities and other partners across Australia to discuss opportunities and challenges around collaborative research.
The second phase (2025–present) is convening place-based dialogues (Local Assemblies) involving practitioners from a diversity of museums, galleries and universities, surfacing localised collaborative knowledge, contexts and needs.
